James Monroe Smith~ Service in the 9th LA.

This is ironic, I just finished a book "Civil War  Diary of a Southern Woman" by Sarah Morgan. She was from Baton Rouge who were very much into the war from the beginning. She wrote a lot about Port Hudson, little did I know until now, my grandfather was there.

This is definitely our James Monroe Smith, and this verifies his service in the 9th LA, which is on his tombstone.  Nice to see his actual signature on his application.
